The Safest, Quickest Way to Enhance EHR Performance
(without actually touching the EHR)
It’s a stone-cold reality that every new implementation into the EHR increases the risk that it will incrementally slow the system, add complexity to the interface, and heighten the chances that something done during the implementation process will negatively impact some underlying EHR process, workflow, or data.
At illumiCare, we understand the enormous challenge that IT teams face each day in making new services available while also protecting the integrity of the overall system. That’s why we offer a non-intrusive ribbon of information that doesn’t directly interact or integrate with the EHR, but instead hovers over a hospital’s electronic health record to provide physicians with real-time, patient-specific cost and patient risk data about the patient concurrently being viewed in the EHR. And we do it with a light technical footprint; using existing provider authentication infrastructure and HL7 messages. As a result, it doesn’t slow the system, add clutter to the interface, or disrupt clinical workflow; and instead appears only in a small portion of the screen and only at the provider’s preference.
IllumiCare’s Smart Ribbon makes the new functionality and data that users want to use today--from a host of trusted third-party apps--available today, not sometime in the distant future, and we do it quicker, less costly, and with minimal risk when compared to traditional integration methods.
"I have absolutely LOVED working with you, honestly one of the best vendors I've dealt with in this company. You have always been available and quick to answer questions or find answers when needed. This project would no be ANYWHERE near as smooth as it is without your help."
Implementation Overview
IllumiCare’s Smart Ribbon makes the new functionality and data that users want to use today--from a host of trusted third-party apps--available today, not sometime in the distant future, and we do it quicker, less costly, and with minimal risk when compared to traditional integration methods.
Data Transfer
Data Requirements Task one is the establishment of a secure data transmission method
and initiation of HL7 feeds. Specifically, we need these 4 HL7 data feeds:
- ADT
- Lab Orders and Results (ORM/ORU)
- Radiology Orders and Results (ORM/ ORU)
- Pharmacy Verified Medication Order (ORM/RDE)
- ADT
- Lab Orders and Results (ORM/ORU)
- Radiology Orders and Results (ORM/ ORU)
- Pharmacy Verified Medication Order (ORM/RDE)
The feeds is can be existing HL7 feeds that contain the minimum data elements. A custom-built feed is not required.
Data Transmission
For data feeds, we use VPN and SFTP. The Ribbon uses HTTPS.
Data Transformation, Analysis & Storage
As data is transmitted in real-time, IllumiCare parses,
cleans, maps, transforms and stages it for Ribbon
presentation. This involves numerous steps of drug and
test mappings, usage of algorithms to determine units of
measures, dosing etc.; all matched back to the correct
division and allocation of costs. Indicators of patient risk
are also calculated (e.g. blood volume, radiation
accumulation, etc.). The data is stored and maintained in
an AWS private virtual cloud (US-based only), with each
health system having its own database. Once called
upon, it then will populate the IllumiCare Ribbon in
real-time.
Ribbon Installation
IllumiCare will provide an .msi of the Ribbon Application for
installation into the virtual desktop environment (e.g., Citrix, VDI,
etc.). IllumiCare is provisioned and deployed to registered users
via your normal provisioning system.
